Radial Shockwave

Radial ShockWave Therapy is a modern and very effective method of treating chronic pain. In addition, its effects can be noticed in as little as 5 sessions.

Shockwave Therapy accelerates the healing process due to stimulating the selfhealing properties of the body. They improve the metabolism and the blood circulation allowing damaged tissue to recover and heal itself. Most patients will feel the results immediately after treatment and will continue to feel the effects weeks later.

The treatment has up to an 80% success rate.

Conditions Treated With Shockwave Therapy:

Plantar Fasciitis
Achilles tendinopathy
Tennis Elbow
Heel Spurs
Shoulder Tendonitis
Trigger points
Jumper Knee
Shoulder pain

How Does It Work:

The Physiotherapist will apply the shockwave applicator to the symptomatic area. The shocks last between 3-5 minutes in total. The shockwave probe delivers a high energy acoustic wave to the injured area which stimulates tissue regeneration, increases blood flow and breaks down scar tissue, thus increasing the speed of recovery. This will be combined with other modalities depending on the condition. You may expect to feel some discomfort but this will resolve within 24 hours.

Your therapist will describe to you what will be happening and what you should feel throughout the treatment.

Supporting evidence for shockwave Therapy according to the Journal of
Research (2005), showed there was a 90% improvement for the treatment of
Fasciitis, and a 77% improvement treating Tennis Elbow.

Most of the Private medical insurance covers this therapy, please check with your provider and for more information on this therapy and to find out if it is suitable for you, please speak with your treating physiotherapist.

  • Helen worked with my 88 year old Mum following her knee replacement. I was very very impressed. Personable, knowledgeable, supportive, she got my Mum full mobilised and back playing bowls. She had her operation in November 2018 and was she was back playing bowls in January 2019. My Mum has now had a refurbishment of her replacement hip and I have no hesitation in going back to her and recommending her to others.

  • An inner ear problem last July that developed into vestibular neuritis led to problems with the muscles, nerves and joints in my neck which caused nausea, dizziness, vision problems as well as the usual aches and pain. In February I came to the Physio4 You team in despair. Rachel did a thorough vestibular assessment and was able to reassure me that the vestibular problem was resolved. I was then given Helen’s details for the neck issues. She has been a real Godsend. She is calm, friendly, reassuring and professional. After a thorough exam in which she listened carefully to my history of symptoms, she took time to explain what the problem was and a plan for treatment going forward. This problem has caused me real anxiety at times. She set my mind at rest that I will get better. I am still undergoing treatment but there has been a vast improvement. She takes time to answer all my questions and I always leave feeling so positive. I would thoroughly recommend their services
